This project is designed to gain access to an area or control a device by using a valid smart card only. The security of any organization is the top most priority for the concerned authorities. For this reason only, the authorized person with a valid smart card is allowed to operate the device/ to access a secure area.

Earlier, human supervision was required to monitor all these parameters, but with this proposed system no supervision is required as only authorized persons are provided with valid smart cards to operate devices.

A smart card reader is provided to read data from the card assigned to the authorized personnel. The smart card reader is interfaced to an 8051 family microcontroller. Whenever the data read by the smart card matches with the data on the microcontroller then LCD would display that the card is authorized and a relay is used simultaneously to switch ON a lamp (indicating a device or access to secure area).

If an invalid card is inserted in the smart card reader, it displays that the card is not authorized and the load (i.e. lamp) remains OFF indicating that the user is not authorized to access the particular area/device. This project can be enhanced further by integrating GSM modem such that any attempt of unauthorized access is made, then an alert SMS is sent to the concerned department.

Further it can be upgraded to RFID / Thumb / IRIS identification system for higher degree of security system.

Q:  What is the Smart Card used in this project?
A:  Smart Card used in this project is a contact based data storing device on a chip and card reader is used to read this card.
Q:  What is the frequency used for its operation?
A:  It works on a Baud Rate of 9600 bps
Q:  Can we place a direct load other than the lamp?
A:  Yes,up to 200 W load can be placed, other than the lamp.
Q:  What is the formula for calculating smoothing capacitor value?
A:  There is some approximated formula .Peak to peak ripple voltage = Load current in amps / (2*line frequency in hertz *capacitance in farads). But as rule of thumb for 1 A current 1000uF is best. Thus it is load dependent.

I have been suggested from my seniors who already got projects from edgefx.
I saw our website and videos and due to some of my friend suggestion,i was interested to take DIY kit.

Yes the kit delivered on time with the right components.I faced the problem while soldering the kit then I called up for the technical support then it is good for technical support its well.Yes its good.I referred to 20-25 members. Among them 10-15 were already placed an order.

While I was searching for the projects, My friend informed me about the URL i.e., www.edgefxkits.com. I decided to buy a kit from Edgefx because the Hardware is assembled properly. I like the complete DIY kit.Yes one component is missing it was sent later i.e.,db 9 connector.No I directly purchased through online. Improvement should be in Technical Aspects. I will suggest to my Juniors.

This project quality is very good and it is very good experience to do this project by watching the audio visuals.
