PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is to design a security system based on a photo-sensing arrangement with an electronic sensor (LDR) that senses the light intensity and generates an alarm for indicating burglary and also turns on lights. This concept is very useful to avoid burglaries in banks, malls, jewelry stores and homes.

 The system is based on an electronic sensor: It is an LDR sensor, known as light-dependant resistor. When light falls on this sensor, its resistance drastically decreases, which leads to triggering an alarm to alert the user. This system is best suitable in providing security for cash boxes and lockers, which are used in malls, jeweler shops, and banks.

The circuit is placed inside the cash box or locker in such a way that, when the burglar opens the locker by some means and uses a torch light to find the valuables, the light falls on the circuit which contains an electronic eye (LDR). This gives a signal to the ripple counter that activates an alarm together with a lamp glowing,  indicating a burglary attempt.

Further this project can be enhanced by using a GSM modem and a microcontroller. GSM modem can be interfaced to the microcontroller to send an SMS to the user in case of burglary.

A:  You can use it with precious items like cash box, jewel box, lockers etc.
Q:  What is the formula for calculating smoothing capacitor value?
A:  There is some approximated formula .Peak to peak ripple voltage = Load current in amps / (2*line frequency in hertz *capacitance in farads). But as rule of thumb for 1 A current 1000uF is best. Thus it is load dependent.
