PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is to develop a system of wireless power transfer to a load in a 3D space. This project is formed out of an AC 230V 50Hz to AC 20 KHz at 12V circuit. AC

50 Hz power is rectified by a bridge rectifier, duly filtered and the DC derived from that is again fed to an AC inverter primary resonating coil comprising of a half bridge MOSFET switching near 40 KHz. Then another resonating coil acting as secondary of an air core transformer – develops a voltage at a distance.

Thus the air core transformer operating near 40 KHz is the main concept for wireless power transfer in 3 D space as one cannot transfer 50 Hz AC power by air core.

 The output of this secondary is given to a 10 watt lamp load that glows at considerable distance from the primary coil without any connection to the primary source. The overall efficiency of the power transfer is better than 70% for all weakly coupled series resonators used in the project.

 This project can be enhanced in future up to 1 meter distance in space using resonators with a Q factor of 1,000 enabling it to send power over a distance, which is 9 times the  radius of the coil of 11 CM.
