This project deals wit calculation of instant electrical load for industries or home. A microcontroller calculates the amount in rupees consumed by the loads as per the input given and displays it on a 16X2 LCD interfaced with the microcontroller. This project is powered by an on-board power supply that takes AC power and converts it into a DC power, which is fed to on-board devices and integrated circuits.

The microcontroller used in this project is of 8 bit 8051 family . Setup buttons are used for entering the price of the unit. A digital energy meter is interfaced with the microcontroller along with an Opto-coupler for getting pulses as per the load.

The power supply consists of a step-down transformer 230/12V, which steps down the voltage to 12V AC. This is converted into DC using bridge rectifier. Ripples are removed using a capacitive filter and it is then regulated to +5V using voltage regulator 7805 which is required for operation of the microcontroller and other components.

Q:  Which microcontroller is used in this project?
A:  The microcontroller used in this project is a 40 pin IC from 8051 family.
Q:  Can I replace lamp with any other load?
A:  Yes, any electrical load with wattage up to 200W can be used.
Q:  How is the energy tariff calculated?
A:  By using digital pulses from energy meter, an appropriate program calculates the pulses and converts it in energy units and then calculates the per unit cost.
Q:  Which energy meter used?
A:  230VAC, 5-20A Digital meter is used

Yes the kit delivered on time but one bulb is missing in my kit.I haven’t called up for technical support because CD content is more than enough.I learnt new things by building the project.I recommend to two of my friends & they even purchased from Edgefx.
