PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project is designed to drive induction motor for required application in forward and reverse directions using wireless technology. For example, an exhaust fan can be used in both the directions to allow fresh air in and to let hot air out.

This proposed system demonstrates a technology to rotate squirrel cage induction motor in both clockwise and counter clockwise directions. It also has a provision to control the direction of motor using TV remote.

When the TV remote button is pressed, it sends an IR signal in RC5 code which is received by the IR receiver called TSOP-1738. The output from the TSOP is fed to the microcontroller of 8051 family which is interfaced to a relay through a relay driver.

Thereafter, the relay switching is done in bi-stable mode for split-phase induction motor to rotate in forward and reverse directions by ensuring the series capacitor  used to change its connection from one coil to the other.

In future, the project can be enhanced by controlling the operation of the induction motor using thyristors in place of relays for noise-free operation.

Note: An induction motor is used to observe the output of the project. The Motor is not supplied along with the kit. However, it can be purchased on extra cost.
