PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project is designed to turn electrical appliances on/off from a PC terminal. This system uses  RS-232 protocol for interfacing a microcontroller to the PC. To turn the appliances on or off, we use hyper tterminal screen on the PC. Once a connection is established with the PC, then the system starts working. The Microcontroller used in this project belongs to 8051 family.

Electrical loads are controlled by  relays either by turning on or off based on the control signals given by the microcontroller and, these relays are interfaced to the microcontroller using relay drivers.

This project can be further enhanced by implementing a GUI based control panel on the PC with appropriate embedded software. The intensity control can also be incorporated using power electronics devices in place of relays.

Note:  The project works only on operating systems having hyper terminal (E.g. Windows XP). The computer must have a RS232 serial port.
