The main intention of this project is to count the objects moving on a conveyer belt in industries and to monitor and count the number of objects moving from one end to the other end. For example, consider cement industry in which the number of cement packets shipped to the load or store end can be counted by using the conveyer belt object counting with sensors and then displayed too .

There are two pairs of sensors: one pair of sensors consists of transmitter and receiver, which are kept exactly opposite to each other across the edges of the belt. The transmitting part emits modulated IR light which is received at the receiver end and is then fed to the microcontroller of the 8051 family. When an object passes through the sensors, then the microcontroller gets an interrupt signal (from IR sensors) to increment the count and it also displays it on a 7-segment display.

The countdown can also be achieved if the object moves in a reverse direction. This project can also be used in any public transport/trains to count the number of passengers for monitoring purposes.

Furthermore, this project can be enhanced by interfacing it with a warning system so that if total number of occupants in a vehicle exceed the passenger carrying capacity, then an alarm is generated by the device.
